The much-anticipated release of Maple Bacon Coffee Porter came upon us this past January 14th. The celebration which has become a yearly ritual for the craft beer giant Funky Buddha gathered people from all parts of the nation, who visited Sunny Fort Lauderdale simply to get a taste of this heavenly concoction. MPCP has sparked a craze since its first release back in 2012 due to the combined flavors or maple syrup, bacon, and coffee which simply create the perfect breakfast in a cup situation … I mean what better breakfast than beer?!
This exquisite beer is locally produced in the brewery’s plant in Oakland, Florida and it’s a true example of what #craftbeer is all about. It was because of this beer that Funky Buddha took the #27 brewery spot in the world back in 2013, and simply took them from a local brewery to pretty much craft beer gods. The bottle release turned four years during this event, and it featured over 100 beers from different Florida breweries, along with other nationally-recognized breweries. In difference with previous years, this time around there was a $55 cost for the event, but with the good news that included unlimited beer samples and an opportunity for attendees to purchase up to two cases of bottles if they wished.
While there were over 100 beers to sample, there were a few that surprised everyone and made more than one person do the hoppy dance. This year’s all-new festival format meant a lot of rare and one-off beers, like Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Creature in the Dark by Proof Brewing Company, Funky Buddha’s Kona Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, Infinite Wishes by Smog City Brewing, Caganer by Aardwold Brewing Company.
Although the festival came and went, if you live Florida and are still craving a fix of MBCP head over to the participating bars that will be tapping this delectable beer on Thursday, January 26… Cheers!
